Default Blows fuse when put in reverse

When I put my car in reverse it blows the fuse for the back up lights and turn signals. I am assuming it is a short somewhere in the wires, but before I go chasing all the wires and ripping the interior apart I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar and if so where the short was in that instance.

Thank you

see if one of your lights are broken, and start from there

Chasing wires is what has to be done....sucks dont it?

I just had a 05 Uplander come in a couple weeks ago with the ABS/TCS lamps on. The EBCM wasnt ommunicating with the PCM, so I checked the modules powers and grounds, found that one of the power wires didnt have voltage. Traced it back to the fuse and it was blown. I replaced the fuse and it seemed to be fixed....got in the car to back it out and as soon as I hit the brakes the fuse blew again and the ABS/TCS lights came back on.

I ended up ripping into the wire loom (approx 4 ft of it...SUCKED!) and found a chaffed wire amongst dozens of others...this was causing the fuse to blow. The wire didnt appear to be rubbing on anything else, not even other wires, but it was at a sharp bend.

Sorry about ranting on but the moral of the story is, check the wiring at the most possible places where it can short, such as sharp bends, etc.

We had a similar issue of blowing fuses for the brake lights and those other lights back there. The short was found somewhere in the area of the back seat.

Chased as much as I could last night in my apartment's parking lot. Couldn't find anything, looks like I get to start ripping the interior apart now

I'm thinking its the reverse light switch, pulled apart the whole interior and followed wires all over and couldnt find anything.

I hate to throw out a stupid question here but...
Did you take the reverse light bulbs out 1st? You could have blown a bulb and the wire inside the bulb is shorting out across. Maybe you checked there already but I hate to see you tear everything apart before you try that.

If you did this already... put a good fuse in and measure the resistance across the contacts of the wiring harness (with the car off). It should NOT be zero for either one. I don't know what the normal resistance should be but if you have a short, you should be able to measure it. if they both measure the same and NOT zero. I would take a good close look at the switch.

Had the same problem, checked all bulbs at first, chased wiring, finally went a bought a backup switch (on the side of your tranny) through it in and that was it, fixed.

It is the reverse light switch in the tranny. Replace it and your blowing fuses problem will be over. I (as well as many others) have had that problem. Replacie the reverse switch in the tranny and you will be good to go again.
