Default Don't raise your hood if...

...your wipers are up off the windshield.

I'm an idiot, and have learned my lesson. Hopefully this post prevents someone else from doing it.

I had just washed my car last week and wanted to clean some of the underhood stuff. Popped the hood, lifted it, then lowered it realizing I still had my wipers up. Put them down only to notice a spider crack stemming from the bottom of the driver's side wiper arm. It's taken over about half my windshield now, but I'm getting it fixed today. There's $200 that won't be used for mods!

I know a guy who did that - cracked his windshield as well. I almost did it once, but heard the hood hit the wiper and stopped it quickly.

Good luck with the fix.

Yeah, that's a no-no. Don't know about IL but in FL your first cracked windshield is covered by insurance free.

I've done that before on my old camaro. Luckily I didn't crack the windshield, all I did was scrape some paint off the hood. Couldn't really notice it.

I just had it replaced yesterday. $200 for the new windshield and labor. The best part was they came to me! I didn't even have to take my car in.

My friend did that - at a car show!! He was cleaning, popped the hood and put a nice crack from end to end. I felt bad but we all had a good laugh from it.

I did this two days ago, but stoped as soon as I heard the wiper touch the hood.

I've always used Safelite Auto Glass when I had windshields replaced on my old cars. They are a national company with mobile service. https://www.safelite.com

I have yet to open my hood with the wipers up. *knocksonwood*
