Default Delco Iridium plug gap question

I recently picked up a set of the Delco Iridium plugs and promptly set the gap to .055- did not realize they were specifically set to .040 when made .

I intend to install them this weekend so....

2 questions-

1. Odds of actually damaging them by re-setting the gap?
2. Shift them back to .040 or leave them at .055 (.040 seems awfully small for a NA motor)?

Thanks

Delco says not to deviate from their setting.

Take them back and pray you get your money back. Proceed to ask for 8 NGK TR55 plugs and gap them .050-.055. Then, with the money you saved, buy some of the candy at the counter that used to sit in the reject bin at WalMart but somehow *insert local auto parts store name* is still allowed to sell. Pat yourself on the back for getting plugs that will work and are affordable.
