Question Radio and Windows don't work, why???

My brother in law bought a 1999 Z28 M6 fully loaded 102,000 miles.

When he bought the car he knew going in that when the factory radio doesn't work, the windows don't work all the time. It's kinda an intermitten problem, but seems to not work more than work.

I haven't personally checked the car out yet he lives in another state. He did a little research and heard that the radio's power goes threw the power windows wiring, is that true?

Is this a common problem?

All fuses are good, all plugs, wires, switches look good from what I'm told.

Any ideas?

Bill

The Body Control Module might be acting up. If he drops the glove box door down he will have access to the BCM. I'm not sure if they are VIN locked but I would look into switching with someone else just to see if it fixes it. Also alot of drag racers remove them so you might be able to get a used one real cheap on here.

What exactly is the BCM, a box full of relays?

Anyone have any info on the box, I want to read up on it.

It's the module that controls all the interior functions like doors/windows/interior lights/radio and the vats and security runs through it. I don't believe that their are any relays or fuses that can be removed out of it. If you open up your glove box, squeeze the back togethor and the whole thing will drop down, then you will see that BCM (just a black box). As I said, I'm not sure if they are vin locked, they are tied to the PCM and they are programed to the key fob but it maybe possible to swap someone elses in just to see if that's the problem.
