Installed shifter now whining
Alright it maybe my imagination but since i put in my pro 5.0 shifter (which i love to death.) i hear a whining noise coming from the shifter area. i installed the boot and everything like instructions said. Heres where my imagination comes in. I only drive the car on the weekends and rarly at all it sits in the garage most of the time, but lately when i've driven it the whining noise seems to be louder. its always loudest when taking off from a stop in first but i can still hear it through all the gears. i have no idea what it is and i would like to know if somethign is going to break i can deal with the noise if its nothing fatal but if its going to explode or something i need it fixed. Has anyone else had this problem. I read in the instructions that other shifters make the whining noise because there is no boot, But i installed the boot back on the shifter this is what worries me. Please help.

mine didn't come with a silencer or oring either it just tells you to cut the boot to fit the shifter witch i did i sealed the shifter to the tranny with some black silicone stuff

I have more noise since I put my shifter in. It did not come with an oring. I RTVed the shifter to the trans housing, tightened everything, resinstalled everything. It's just a little noiser at low rpms than the stock piece. I am thinking a little dynamat and that should be the end of that.

Good point though - when I redid the install one of the mounting bolts was loose already after only 2 months of driving.

i didn't use loc tite but i'll have to pull the counsle off again to tighten the shift lever bolts so maybe i'll check if the bolts are loose while i do that

If I'm not mistaken that is the function of the rubber isolator in the factory shifter, to quell the buzzing/whiny noise translated from the transmisson through the shifter. So now that the factory unit has been replaced with an aftermarket piece, it will produce that sound because the new shifter does not use a rubber isolater to muffle the whine.

The thing is the pro 5.0 shifter gives you the choice to cut the hole a little bigger on the rubber boot and still be able to use it but i just figure the shifter makes more noise and i'll get used to it. right now its just anoying its like i can hear the gears whining in the transmission. i thought about sticking the stock one back in but i don't really feel like it.
