Default A/C not always turning on?

Last summer while kicking the *** of a Lotus Elise, I threw both my belts. Since replacing the belts, it seems the A/C is not always turning on. I doubt it has anything to do with the belts. But if I rev the car hard (past 4 grand), most of the time the A/C will kick on. I never had the problem before throwing the belts, and I pulled over immediately once I noticed my engine temperature steedily rising (And loss of power steering).

I am guessing now that, I am low on freon (refrigerant). But could there be some other problem, with my A/C? Its like one hundred and freakin three degrees (103!) here in Dallas.

Thanks

Robert

Its possible that the shredded belt damaged an a/c line, causing the low pressure. I would also check the a/c wiring. Its that wire that runs down the front of the passenger head has aluminum tape around it. Check it and make sure its not damaged.

would low pressue cause the A/C not to come on?

I was wondering if what ever controls the A/C shut off/turn on when passing 4000 RPMs/ slowing to under 4000 RPMs could have malfunctioned.

Or is this simply managed by the car's computer?
