Default security light on car wont start!

Security light went on. Car wont start. Tried disconnecting the battery and switching fuses around. Done it before, but started back up when the light went off. Now the light stays on and it wont start. Anybody have any ideas? Need help.

Tried another key, cleaned the one you're using? Could be VATS/ignition switch.

If its your ignition switch you will need to replace the ignition and get new keys which is around $300. But if you don't mind not having the antitheft device, resistor on the key, then you can bypass it and should solve your problems, if its your ignition switch. The ignition switch has a resistance meter that's reads the resistance on your key and that's how it works as a antitheft device. If someone tries to start the car without the right resistor the car won't start. My car is manual and I was able to push start it. I think the VATS system only cuts off power to the starter.

Here is a diagram of the VATS system. http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg
The wires are located the bottom of the steering column. If I remember correctly, I think the wires are purple and black. You will need to find out what resistance the key has and you can do that with a ohm meter. You will then have to cut the wires that go to the key lock cylinder and solder a resistor with the same value as the key where you splice the wires. You will need to cut the wires right after the harness and that will make it easier to solder them outside the car.

here's the Resistance Numbers. Go to the dealer and have them read the key resistance number of your key and go get the resistor that corresponds to the key code. Hope that helps~Cole~

If the security light is on it should of set a diagnostic trouble code. You might just need a new key though.
