Default A/c HELP

How much R-134a does the a/c system in a 98 formula hold? I broke a hose and now putting new freon into the system. Just want to know how much it takes when it's completely dry.

the compressor clutch will cycle on and off fast if the pressure is high enough. i think the pcm shuts the compressor off above 4xx psig. cant remember for sure.

Im not sure what car systems do, but in commercial units, if the head pressure gets to high, you'll trip the head pressure switch and the commpressor will shut down.

Could explain why the compressor engages, starts blowing cold, and then it shuts off. Oh well its going to my friends dad's shop to get looked at.

Well got the car back from the mechanic. Said he couldn't figure out what's the deal because the freon was at the right level. The compressors kicks on, but just for a little bit then it shuts off and won't come back on until the car is turned off let sit for a few minutes and then started back again.

The tube going from the hvac stuff in the back of the engine bay to the condensor. There's a sensor on it by the fenderwell. What does that sensor control? That's the tube I had to replace and wonder if it's something to do with that as it's not a new line.

Thats the a/c pressure switch. If the mechanic hooked it up to gauge and watched the pressure on the system as the compressor ran, I am betting he would have seen a change in pressure when the compressor kicks off (too high). If not, then maybe you have an electrical problem. You could try swapping the a/c relay for the fuel pump relay and see if the problem goes away.
