Some help with a code?
Like the title says I need help with a code, and I know before everyone says to use the search. But the search wasn’t working for me at the time and I want to get the problem fixed already.
The code that is showing with a hand held tuner is P0430. Catalyst system Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2). If I erase the code it will come back on within a couple of miles of normal driving.
Some information about the car. It is a 2000 Camaro SS absolutely bone stock.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bad passenger side cat. If you're under 80K it's covered under the federal emissions warranty. You can try swapping the rear 02's from side to side and see if the code changes to P0420 (drivers side) but most likely the cat.

Gearchatter.com list all the codes and the reason for the code. I have that code on my car now and it means the cat is not taking out all of the pollutants. But you might want to get vefiry this information on gearchatter.com

I just had the SES light come on a few days ago, scanned it and it was the exact same code, P0430.
I have a 2000 Firebird Formula 100% stock, about 55K miles.
Z28, could you explain more about that federal emissions warranty?
Thanks.

Cats and PCM are covered by GM under the federal emissions warranty for 8yrs or 80K miles - don't have the be the original owner of the car. Have a couple buddies that had P0420 for the drivers side, dealer replaced for free. Over the phone they'll probably say could be a bad 02, physically damaged cat, exhaust leak, diagnostic fee, etc. But neither had to pay a penny. It's in the Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booket that came with my car.
