service bulletin letter in the mail
I have a 2001 SS and I received a letter in the mail a few days ago.
According to chevy some of the LS1 cars produced in 01 could have a catalytic converter go bad on them. They said not to bring the car in unless I think I am having this problem.
My question is, How do I know if a cat is going bad? will the car throw a code?

I was one of the guys that have had a CAT changed by the dealer - CATs are normally warrantied for 75K miles, so no charge. I talked to my buddy who works the parts counter at a different dealership, and he said they were seeing alot of the CATs going out. The letter stated that they're extending the warranty out to 120k miles - cool. I guess the HUNDREDS of 1/4 mile passes might have been the cause. Mine's a 2002 by the way.

But what GM is issuing now is 10 years/120K miles. '00-'02 model years are effected. These are all the years with the new manifold/cat/Y-pipe setup ('98-'99 are slightly different).

it is 8yr/80k on the entire exhaust system and ECM as per Fed Regs..
I got my letter today, to bad I pulled the cats two years ago after Gm refused to replace mine the right way. They kept replacing one at a time and they would go for about 20k miles before the opposite side would give me the code.

I had mine fixed at the dealership around 35k for free. The serivce engine light came on and didnt go off so i took it to autozone and they said it was the cat. The next day gm fixed it for free.

my problem never was if they would fix it, that they will not change them both out at the same time which then cause a flow or efficiency issue that the ECM ends up trigger the SES light becase the cats are at two completely differnt efficieny rates.
