Default Something is TICKING!

Is it possible for your AC Clutch to make a ticking knocking sound? My 2000 TA started doing this over the weekend, but it isn't consistent. I rev up to about 4k, and it will go away. I know my AC clutch always whistles, just haven't been able to replace it. I just would like to know if that could cause the ticking sound I hear. It is pretty loud too, it almost sounds like a bent push rod.

Thanks!

This is totally the wrong section for such a post, but I'll give you a quick tip.

Rule out the driven accessories by removing the serpentine belt.

No, not necessarily.

If you suspect the noise is coming from the AC clutch, remove the belt
and run the motor momentarily.

a belt isnt going to make the engine tick....first off, have you changed the type of oil youve been using lately? secondly, have you narrowed down the area of the noise? lastly is it more of a metal sound or just a ticking....i highly doubt you have a bent pushrod just for the fact it will make a sound through the whole powerband and you will also feel a small difference in the car......you just could have a exhaust leak

I don't think he was telling him to remove the belt to see if the belt was ticking, rather to remove the belt to see if any of the serpentine accessories were ticking (Alt, AC, Water, etc)

Ok, seriously now, do as described above might be able to narrow it down to either external engine(exhaust leak) or internal (pushrods)
