U-Joints going bad?
Hey guys,
I am noticing one of those mysterious "clunking" sounds from the drivetrain. I can't pinpoint it but it seems to happen when the car downshifts from 3-2-1 and can be really noticeable from 2-1 when I am going real slow.
This is an A4 in a 97 T/A. I just serviced the rear about 3 months ago and it looked great. No noise coming from it or the trans.
Its annoying and seems to be getting a little worse now. Maybe the driveshaft. The trans needs to be serviced ASAP anyway.
Car has 135K miles on it...only thing I replaced was the motor mount as I tore it up on a launch one day. Replaced it with an ES piece and no problems.
Anyone have similar happenings?
Thanks in advance

My loose converter solved the problem with the clunk in downshift 2-1. I am also getting other clunks. Except my problem is a little different. I get a really bad clunk when shifting 2-3 or downshifting 3-2. I found a thread on it with about 10 people complaining about it, but no one ever found the problem. This started happening as soon as I installed my UMI crossmember mounted torque arm.
Trans mount is between the transmission and the crossmember. Not the crossmember for the exhaust though. Torque arm mount (clamshell) is at the tail of the transmission.
