What would cause cruise control to intermittently turn off by itself?

What would cause cruise control to intermittently turn off by itself?
Noiced some odd behavior from my cruise control on a recent roadtrip. I'd have the cruise set to ~77MPH in 6th gear, and it would intermittently cancel itself without getting on the brake nor turning it off manually. It would also disengage randomly when increasing the cruise speed with the lever on the stalk.
Tried it at varying interstate speeds and the speed didn't seem to matter. Ideas?

I'm not sure how different the cruise-control is on the LS1's compared to other cars, but it sounds like the connector for the cruise-control under the hood may be loose.
Hope this helps <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Was it raining?? I drove mine in a heavy down poor with the cruise on at like 60ish.. The car started to hydroplane and the low trac light came on and cruise turned off. I thought that was cool GM planed for that..

If you have a clutch, and you foot may put just a tad pressure on it, that would do it too.
Big shoes and moving around, I have done it when adjusting myself. <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

- It wasn't raining
- I had my feet crossed in front of me, away from the pedals (although I do have big feet)
- CC cable appears correctly connected
I'm leaning towards Michael's explanation: Just GM build quality <img src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

Re: What would cause cruise control to intermittently turn off by itself?
Couple years ago, the CC switch on my clutch pedal broke causing the CC not to work at all. Could be a bad connection there or on the brake brake pedal causing it to turn off intermittently..

Where is the CC connection under the hood? mine has not worked for a while and I think the the CC did not get hooked back up after my accident

On both the clutch and brake pedal there should be a switch so when you press either pedal it disengages the cruise. You may need to adjust one or both of these.

The wife used to have a '95 Grand Am that had a similar problem. Turned out to be a bad multi-function switch that was replaced under warranty.

A few times since I've had my car, the cruise just would not engage. I had to cycle the ignition and then it was fine. I have no idea as to why this happens. I've seen it on a few other non Fbod cars. Sorry I couldnt help.

My 06 Honda Accord, the cruise control would turn off by itself randomly. A touch of rough pavement would do almost every time. Brake pedal would trigger the brake switch and turn off the cruise control when it jiggled from a bump per the Honda tech. He tweaked on the pedal & switch and it quit doing it.

Brake pedal switch was the first thing I checked. Ohmed it out ..... even kicked the pedal while cruise was on and it wouldn't kick off .... I couldn't invoke the fault.
I changed out the stalk and ohmed it to the cc module - -good. That leaves connectoritous at the ECU and/or CC module, or the physical cable, or the servo.
That narrows it down! BTW - when I say connectoritous, that includes cold solder joints at the CC module. I also checked the 3rd brake lights and both lamps are good.

traction loss will kick off cruise. think of it like you are driving in the snow with cruise set then all of a sudden the rear wheels were to lose traction and slip.
but obviously this is happening on dry roads, if a wheel speed sensor for a split second reads fast, the car will think it lost traction and kick off cruise. you can confirm this if you hook up a scanner that can read wheel speed sensors, drive the car with a passenger and have them watching what the wheel speed sensors are saying. set cruise, and see if the sensors do something funny right when cruise kicks off to see if this is your issue.
