Default power steering overflowing reservoir!

hey guys, I'm a long time reader/searcher ... first time poster. I tried searching, but didn't come up with anything. Recently, I've gone to start my car and have heard the power steering pump whining. When I check the fluid level, it is low, and the side of the reservoir looks like the fluid has come out from under the cap and run down the side of the reservoir. What would cause this? and what would the fix be? thanks.

I've never had mine get really low but I do see it come out a little every now and then from under the cap. I guess the cap isn't sealing properely. Maybe try getting another cap cause yours may be really bad.

I think it actually vents properly from the cap but only does this when it's overheating or over filled.

Your reservoir might have a leak. (you can get a new res) Fill her up to proper amt and keep track of it for now.

yeah, i have a feeling that it is supposed to vent out from under the cap in the event that someone overfills the reservior ... however, my fluid level isn't high ... in fact, it ends up being low (checked with car warm, but off) ... to the point of not registering on the dipstick. Would a dying power steering pump make the reservior level rise to the point of overflowing?

There is a air vent built into the cap. a little leaking is normal.

My fix to keep it clean.

Did you ever figure out your problem?
