Default GC 0w30 on non LSX?

Over the years GC 0w30 (German) has been touted as a holy grail by some. I currenty use this oil in all our cars:

99 Dodge Intrepid 3.2L
00 WS6 Trans Am
03 RCSB Silverado 4.8L

We have just purchaced a slightly used 06 Lincoln Navi with Ford's 5.4 3v. And for the first time I'm questioning the use of GC. Ford says use 5w20, a thin oil at temp. I know GC 0w30 runs a little thicker than others at the same weight, so for an engine asking for a thin oil do you think GC is too heavy?

TIA, Scott

It's NOT too heavy (especially for where you live). The big manufacturers went to those water-like oil weights to help get their big, thirsty SUVs to meet the CAFE/EPA mileage standards. The worst that can happen is you'll see an almost negligable MPG difference using the GC vs. 5W-20 (especially a mineral 5W-20). Now Ford may have built these mod motors with slightly tighter clearances to facilitate the use of the thin stuff, but NOT soooo tight that even the slightly thicker 30 weight of the GC would hurt the engine.

I have heard of problems of using 40wt oil in the newer Fords, but not on 30 wt.
