Default Broken Coolant Sensor... Can this cause car to run bad???

My coolant temp sensor broke. It makes the dash read the proper temp. Well, ever since my dash stopped reading, the car has ran like ****. Misfires, stalls, sputters, etc. Its my 98 Formula. I thought I messed up something when I swapped intakes over the weekend. I visually inspected the car nothing seemed unusual.

Scanned codes, all the egr, air, rear 02's and the p0300 misfire code were on the scanner. I didnt think anything of those b/c I knew Id be getting them w/ LT's & ORY & LS6 intake. When I bought the car, the sensor was already broke. After the intake swap the piece broke again causing the gauge not to work.

does anybody know if I fix it, should it fix the problem? I already checked plugs & wires(ran good for 2 weeks before the intake.) This is the only part I could think of. I ordered it from my dealer. I wont be out anything if it dont fix the prob b/c it's broke anyway. IDK, can somebody help me before I blow this thing up!!!

just unplug the pos thats what I did to mine. they always go out and it wont make your car run like ****, as long as you keep an eye on your fluid you will be just fine w/o it

No ECT codes? What temp was the PCM seeing? I would think the PCM needs the correct temp from the ECT and would set a code when it's broken or disconnected.

Think you mean the low coolant sensor, think he means the engine coolant temp sensor? Or maybe I'm confused...

If it is the engine coolant temp sensor it needs to be functional.
The pcm needs to know the engine temp as well, for timing and other related functions.
This sensor is located at the forward corner of the driver side head.

the engine requires the ect to run correctly. the pcm uses it to determine how much fuel to give the motor during the warm up process. even though these cars use heated o2 sensors they still require a certain amount of time to warm up before they can be used to adjust fuel trim. since the o2's are not warm yet, the pcm uses ect input. just replace it!

I replaced the coolant temp sensor(in D/S Head) today. The car runs perfect too. I also washed, waxed and installed my catch can!! I was reading that the broken sensor will trick your car into thinking your coolant is -40F which makes the AF ratio 1.5:1!!! I was flooding the crap out of my engine! I could get it fired in clear flood mode b/c it shut off the injectors. Oh well, all is good now and thanks for the help!!

well......after I replaced my head gaskets, my sensor broke and i tried starting it and it kicked over for like 3 seconds then stalled, and now wont fire, i pulled one of the plugs and it was soaked in gas, which means that it is being flooded. I put in a new sensor, and its still not firing. can anyone give me any useful advice?????................sorry for the thread hijack

a plug soaked in gas can mean several things, off fuel pressure, bad spark, etc

after replacing the broken sensor, what would cause my fuel pressure to change?
