Default Rear end problem

I have a 01 trans am. Well my problem is that when im driving down the road i hear this noise that kinda sounds like the tire is rubbing against the wheel.. i put the car on jacks, took off the tires and pressed the accerator. i found out the noise was coming from the rear end. well yesterday i took off the rear end cover and it looks normal, no scratches, or rubbing of any sort that i could tell. the magnet was full of metal. not metal shavings but the little kind of metal you get from 80k of normal wear and tear, but the car has around 80k so i think its normal wear and tear since the rear end has never beened opened before. i looked at the driveshaft and it aint rubbin anywhere. i have come to the conclusion that its one of my bearings but i dont know i really aint that saavy when it comes to rearend issues. the gear teeth look in good shape. someone please help this noise is drivin me crazy!!!!
