Default broken flip out cup holder!!

ok well it's been broken awhile... but why in the **** doesn't GM sell just that one piece??? I bought an entire lower console from somebody for 35 bucks, thankfully it was cheap... upon inspection of the stock console, and the one I bought when I had them both out (doing a shifter install, perfect time to replace!) ... I felt like keeping my stock console because it was LOADS cleaner, and much less scuffed up. So further inspection brought me to the underside of the console... much to my surprise, and a little more inspection, the cupholder unit is in 4 pieces... a screw, which holds it all together, a spring, for obvious reasons of tension and whathaveyou, a small round plastic dish with 3 holes... and the cup holder itself, upon which contains a hollow peg with 3 tabs, a load spring for the drop out bar to hold your cup, and the drop out bar.. not rocket science, few seconds to unscrew from the bottom, cup holder slides right out, and I can easilly replace my broken off one in mere minutes.

so again I ask...
why isn't that part sold separately?
no one in their right mind is going to spend $120 on a new lower console if that is the only problem (if its completely trashed, sure why not)...hell I'd happily pay just the $35 for the damn cupholder if thats the case and what they want to charge for it... it's not worth that much, but essentially thats what I paid for, since I tossed the older console into the trash after taking what I wanted off of it...

how many other people have come to that conclusion? or has everyone just gone and swapped the whole lower console?

I don't know what junk yards want for a lower console these days, but its probably more than most people want to spend... but I wonder if they'd notice a handful of missing cupholders? I might go snag a bunch and sell em on here

That is par for the course...my shift handle (A4) is missing the button on the end, but you have to buy the whole shift handle. My rear defroster switch was bad when I got the car, you have to buy the whole hvac console. Thanks GM...

it's not going to happen, just so you know... to buy the swing out cupholder, you have to buy the entire center console base .... which runs anywhere from $120-$150 depending... look for yourself.

you can't even order it from GM by itself, i've tried

makes me slightly skeptical... who knows though, i just replaced mine, but if it breaks again I'll give it a shot.

maybe the firebird cup holders are different, I don't know for sure don't have much experience with the firebird side of life... however, I just changed the search to my Camaro and, well, nothing comes up.

kind of disappointing
