Default Quick Oil filter queston

I am in the middle of changing my oil, the Wix oil filter is on the right and the new oil filter is on the left

they are the same diameter, is it ok that the new filter is smaller?

I ran into the same thing last week. All I can really tell you is that I went ahead and used the smaller one, and my car hasn't blown up yet. I'm also curious as to why there are different sizes. I've heard of LS1 people using a bigger filter made for a truck so they can run a full six quarts instead of 5 1/2.

An oil filter is exactly what it says, an oil filter. It is not an oil pan or oil storage device. It just traps particles from the oil. Size does not matter unless your engine has so much trash that it is too small to trap it all. Put it on, you won't have any trouble.
