Default Fuel pump whine

Today after getting back from visiting my mother, I noticed a whining sound coming from the back of my Z28. When I got home, I kept the car running, and looked under the back bumper, and hear a low whining sound like a jet engine at idle. Is my fuel pump on the fritz? The car still runs fine, with no idle problems or picking up speed. Thanks.

My car did the same thing after a road trip from D.C. to Chicago. That was over 20,000 miles ago. It just went away the next morning and never came back, so I never fudged with it.

After a long drive mine sounds like a fan or something, kind of like it's pushing air through a tube. Can't really describe it; not a whine, but more like a blowing sound or something. Been doing that for a couple of years, still runs fine.

Typical gm fuel pump whine dont worry about it until it's silent then you will know it quit because you will be pushing the car as opposed to driving it.

FWIW my Ford Escort's fuel pump always whines whenever the engine is running. It's been like that for four years, so obviously the pump is working ok. But it is somewhat noisy, easily audible at idle.

In my Formula, if I have the cover for the t-top well folded up, I can hear the pump when I'm inside the car. If it is folded down covering the well I can't hear the pump.
