Need advice: Cleaned my car's IAC valve. Now it's acting weird.
Recently, I was having a somewhat irregualr idle on my 1998 Pontiac Trans Am. After speaking to a number of people, I was advised to remove and clean my car's IAC valve. I did this. While I was in the process, I removed the throttle completely and cleaned that out.
I reinstalled everything, and started my car. The idle seemed to be somewhat smoother. However, I noted that my "Service Engine Soon" light was now on. Also, when starting from a stop, my 1st gear to second gear shift (I have an automatic) is somewhat quick/harsh. Its hard to describe it, but, it felt like I was jerking/yanking from first to second. Other than that, I noted no problems.
Does anyone have any opinions about the problem?

I intend to get it checked. Until then, I'm looking for any opinions.
I read that my car would have to relearn idle, and I read the procedure (from a GM service manual that I have). When I shift from Park to Drive, it just makes a weird almost banigng sound. Needless to say, I just shut the car off.
Does anyone know how a TB cleaning, as well as an IAC valve cleaning would have an effect on how my car shifts?

You can clean an iac to the point of breaking it
Yours might just be bad. They're cheap, maybe just pick up a new one at Autozone and get them to check the code for free while you're there.

Tainted, I want to thank you for your concern and suggestions. I think I have solved the problem, tho.
I was watching one of the seafoam videos in a different thread, and I randomly and suddenly remebered that I never reinstalled the two sensors that attach to the air box. (I'm not too sure what those sensors are. Any ideas?)
Anyway, I went out, attached them. I still had the error message when I turned my car on, but, after completeing the re-learn cycle, the SES message went away.
Hopefully, there are no other problems.
