Default Hmmm....10W40?

My dad has been a long subscriber to really thick oil due to us living in S. Florida. So since I've owned my car (a little more than a year) I've been putting 10W40 Amsoil Synthetic in it. It has 68,XXX on it now and i got it at 63,XXX. Is this oil too thick or damaging?

Same thing I run. I haven't noticed any problems with it. I've heard it is a little harder on the oil pump and seals, and not to switch oil weights all the time. If I could find 10w30 Synthetic Amsoil I would run that. But until then, I'll keep using 10w40. You can buy 10w30 from their website, but I'm not sure how much shipping would be. I buy it locally here.

No, no and no. I run 15/40 amsoil extended change diesel oil in mine it will be fine. We buy oil by 55 gallons at the shop so I use what we have. But the amsoil 15/40 is what we run in a lot of over the road diesels which have way tighter tolerances than any ls engine so there is not need to worry about scattering it. Especially with high outiside ambient temperatures the heavier oil is better.

I've ran 5W40 M1 for a while and had no issues with it. I'd think 10W40 would be ok since summer time is coming on.

I've never had any problem with running thicker oil. But I guess in the "General maintenance" forum they shun running thicker oil.

The 10w-40 will work but a xw-30 would be preferred. I would not sweat either one.

As far as ordering, the shipping on a case of oil is not bad at all. AMSOIL has an excellent deal worked out with UPS to get lower rates. A case of 12 qts is under $9 for shipping. PLUS by ordering directly through one of the AMSOIL links on LS1Tech you are directly supporting the site. LS1Tech is the actual dealer and receives all the procedes of the sales.
