How do you guys tighten your lug nuts without scratching them?

Hey believe it or not i know what your talking about ....they make a set of impacts from eastwood that are real skinny and coated with a special rubber or plastic to keep from scratching you wheels thats one place i know you can get them from

Do you mean the nuts or the rims?
Rubber coated sockets for rims yes.
To prevent scratching the lug nuts?

I mean when you put the socket onto the lug nut it will be metal on metal how do you guys protect the lug nut from being scratched when tightening it??

You don't
Unless you opt for really fancy lug nuts like these.

I'm just using these as an example.

Since the spline is doing the driving it keeps the nuts looking nicer.
As for stock lugs your out of luck if you use an impact. My .02
