I was doing a smog inspection once on one of those LT1's with that same code. It turned out to be the hoses on the purge solenoid were on backwards.
Smog Test Fee 30 dollars
Diagnosis Fee(1Hr Min.) 65 dollars
Getting paid an hour to fix it and taking only five minutes PRICELESS

It's the one with the little red and blue connector in front of the trans fluid dipstick.
Could just as easily be a sticking purge valve or cracked hoses.
Good luck.

It could, anything is possible.
It connects to your charcoal canister which in turn connects to your fuel tank.
Will your gas mileage suffer? Maybe. How much? Couldn't tell you.
It's purpose is to purge stored fuel vapors from your gas tank into your manifold to be burned. Instead of venting them into the atmosphere. It's basically an emissions device.
