Default engine about shot

well ive had my car since september 06 and so far its been in the shop for a trans a water pump and missalanious things i have a warrenty so ive only paid about $600 compaired to the warrenty paying about 4-5000.

about a month ago i changed my oil and noticed more metal shavings than ought to be on the plug i expect alittle mettal on the magnet the car is 8 years old and does have 96000mi.. i check it about 1-2 times a week last time i checked it it was a quart low so i added 1 quart. i went to the track sunday and raced the car checked the oil monday and it was still full. i was driving today and noticed my oil pressure was around 20psi at idle in drive(usually around 40psi in my car) so i pulled into the nearest gas station and when i checked my oil it was a quart low again.

my question is when the motor does go should i just take whatever engine the warrenty gets me (my "new" trans was an 86000mi. one) find a low mile engine and pay the difference or get a gm engine and pay the difference. the only problem i have is that im 19 and as my parents use to say money doesnt grow on trees. so any advise would be greatly appreiciated.

Your warranty should pay for a rebuild on it. Check over your documents, i would think they would rebuild it since it seems hard to find an LS1 in a junkyard...

Yeah, you gotta be careful. My Z28 lost pressure after it started knocking driving home form class, but not until I got home and the motor stalled. The end result is a spun bearing from over-revving. Now I'm trying to find a replacement LS1, and I know how you feel, being 19 as well.

I'd look at your warranty papers again, that seems kind of fishy.
