Default How-to: Cleaning Throttle Body?

Howdy! Whats the best way that y'all have found to clean the throttle body?

I was cleaning up my MAF today and was thinking about just pulling off the throttle body and using rags/microfiber towels and some WD40 or leftover MAF Cleaner Spray on the TB.

Thanks -Karl

IMO, I would NOT use WD-40.

Read the Seafoam sticky, there is a section that deals with cleaning the throttle body. I wouldn't go to all the trouble of removing it either.

I used carb cleaner once and it left some gross stuff behind. I took off the TB and everything was covered in a brown foamy liquid. Looked like coffee with cream inside my TB. My point is to use an actual spray meant for cleaning TB's like deep creep.

That seems like a lot of work, to take the whole TB off to clean it. Especially if the coolant lines are still connected. I'm planning on using the deep creep on mine, I'll see how that goes first.

Spraying into the TB while still on car may work to get some crud off but there are passages for the IAC that usually get gunked up that you won't be able to clean unless you remove the TB and take all the sensors off.

why would it be that hard to take it off anyway? don't you just turn the car off and disconnect the couple of sensors and pull the tb off?

THATS why the tb bypass is good....just makes it easier to take the tb off...if you feel its to much work to take a tb off to clean it and make your car run better....give me your car
