Default gas gauge

I installed an oem fuel pump and my gas gauge is stuck at half full.Called a friend of mine and he said I was supposted to take the rubber float off the old pump and install it on the new pump, an ideas? The dealer said it was a direct drop in...

I replaced mine and I found the float was getting hung up on the fuel feed line coming from the top of the pump itself, I had to just open the tank back up and free the float and it's been good ever since.
