Default Z rated tires only good for 15,000 miles?

Got a couple tires replaced and the guy told me that Z rated tires are good for only 15,000 miles...at the most...anyone confirm this? I don't really do any burn outs...just highway driving

Z rated tires means that it can handle speeds of 149+. It doesn't tell you what the composition of the tires are. If you are going on a reallllly soft tire, like a drag radial, you can expect really low miles. If you're going on a soft tire, 15,000 isn't too bad. Alot of Z rated tires are performance and are sticker than normal. Thus don't last nearly as long. I'm not sure on what brands wear longer than others. Just my take on it.

I have those same tires and i have a about 15k on them. They still have tread and can easily last 20k or more.

That guy is feeding you lines.

Treadwear rating vary some, but can give you decent idea.

I had over 25K on my Kumho rated at 220 treadwear.

I usually get about 20k to 25k miles out of my GS D3s depending on how much highway driving I do(more miles) and how many trips to the strip I make (less miles)

That's good to know, as I just bought those same Falken's for my 'Z. the last set of tires I bought were Firehawk SZ50's, and they only lasted 15K or so, even with an "I'm afraid something will break so I'll drive like an old person" style of driving. I'll just end up buying those Falken's again for my T/A. Those Falkens also come with a warranty, which is also nice...

Wow I"m glad I didn't go with them lol. 800 a Set and only last between that. The treadwear is like 300+ it should be around 30 would imagine. When I sold my kumhos they still had 3.5/32 after 25k miles and 1 roataion. I'm hoping these firestones will do better.

The KDWS wear pretty good they have 400 treadwear.

I bet they love us, we pay more than 4x4 tires most of the time for half the treadwear.

The GSC's, SZ-50's and GS-D3's all wear about the same. 25-30k each on same car, w/ same dirver.

The GS-D3's are by far the best tire I've ever owned. Straight lines better than any non-drag radial (except maybe nitto), turns and rain traction better than almost any street tire made (except maybe one or two that cost more $$). 25k miles for this type of grip is not bad. Any tire that has a 50k+ wearout warranty won't grip worth a ****.

ditto. Better treadwear means less grip. I barely get 20,000 miles on any of the tires I use. KD, GSD3, etc. lol
