Default starter and bell housing help!

I can't get the bell housing off. I have removed 8 bolts. 1 top dead center, one to the left, 2 on the left side, 2 on the right side and 2 on the bottom. I have knocked it w/ a rubber mallet and it has budged. Is there something I am missing? And the on the starter, there is a plastic piece between the starter and bell housing that is not allowing me to get a socket on the starter bolt. I tried to use a wrench but the position is a little awkward and I could get the bolt to budge (hurt like crazy trying). Is there any way to get that piece of plastic out. I think that is around the starter. I removed the small bolt that was below the starter. It is a 98 z28 m6, I am replacing the clutch.

Thanks for the help.
