Default How to find the code number

My service engine light comes on and then off in a few days and then on and off again. So how do i actually find the number to look it up in Sticky:Check Engine Light Codes. Please help.

you need to get a scan tool from like Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts and when the SES light comes on scan for the code by using the directions in the users manual that comes with it and from there it will tell you cade and if you want to delete it.

The port where the scan tool plugs in is on the drivers side, under the dash just to the left of the console, in case you didn't know.

Don't know what type of scan tool Auto Zone uses, but I'd have them read it anyway (free) - once the light comes on most codes are stored in the PCM history for about 40 ignition cycles after the MIL shuts off.

Well if something was really wrong with my engine then the light wouldn't come on for like 24 hours and then turns off and turns on like either a day or two days later then turns back on.
