Default rough idle and service engine soon light?

last night i noticed on my way home, my car at idle at a light, was kind of idling rough, between 400-600 rpm up and down, and at some points felt like it was about to die, i didnt think much of it cause i was tired, but this morning when i left for work i noticed it was doing the same thing, only when i was about a block away from work, it threw a service engine soon light. the car is stock other than a lid that i put on a month or so ago, and open y pipe. it has 95,000 on the clock now, any ideas what it could be? it hasnt had plugs and wires in a long time, but i doubt thats it..

Check the code an post it up. Sounds like it could be a misfire. What does it do when you accelerate?

My guess would be O2's. Check for codes.

runs great under acceleration, just misses a lil slowing down coming to a light and idling.

My bet: EGR valve stuck open causing a rich condition at idle......almost sounds like you got a cam idling but runs fine otherwise. Get the code scanned & you'll have your answer.

If it's good under acceleration, not a misfire. Now, I'm also leaning towards O2 or EGR, get it scanned Too bad we can't figure these things out without a scanner....

if it did it at cold start then its probably not your o2 sensors, its probably your egr valve stuck open.

The EGR is an easy fix. Just get rid of it if emissions are no problem.
