My driver side window will not roll down. Whenever the window button is pressed down, the window will roll down 1/4" and then stop while the motor (i guess) makes a loud grinding sound. Any ideas of what this is? Window motor, gears, regulator?? Any help is appreciated.

sounds like the regulator, unless something came loose and is blocking the path.

Can you still hear the motor going?? If not, then that might be the culprit!!

Yes, you can still hear the motor trying to roll the window down. Thats why I am wondering if the gears are stripped, or the regulator is messed up.

Has anyone found the fix to this? I have the exact same problem. I cant see anything blocking the path but the motor is trying to bring the window down but only goes about 1/4in before it stops and grinds.

Sounds like the motor. On my 91 Trans Am, the passenger motor did the same thing a month back. 1/4 down and a machine gun sound. The motor was bad. I replaced it, and everything was back to normal. Yours is likely bad as well.
