My 99 z28 with 78k and good maintance records. I changed my oil and filter with castrol syntec 5w30 and 2 months and 1500 miles later my change oil light came on so I changed the oil. Sure enough the oil was very black. This can not be a good sign with such little time and milage between changes. Why is the oil so dirty? Does the engine need attention?

You should seafoam it and I can almost guarantee that your problem will go away.

seafoam might be a good idea, I was in the same situation..oil seems much cleaner now..If you modded the car it could be running rich & causing a lot of carbon buildup

dirty oil aint really that bad, that somehat new but that just means its doing its job

Did you reset the change oil light when you changed the oil the first time?

Oil gets discolored, fast, I am not surprised it looked dirty at 1500 miles.

How do I re set the oil light? I changed my oil but the light is still on. It should not be running rich, I just have the Slp air intake kit and an exhaust, not mods to the cats and stock manafolds.

turn the ignition to on(don't start) Hold the reset button 15sec or when it turns off..every car is different, my 99 runs as clean as a whistle, the oil always look good when I change it.

Turn the key foward to "on" but do not start. Press the gas pedal down three times in a row quickly and you should see the light go off.

strange, im about to change my oil (its been 3000 since the change), its just a tan brown. I did seafoam it a year ago, i think that was definately a step in the right direction, the motor seems to run alot stronger now than it did before.

but if its not black by 3000 miles on a 112k motor, i guess that means im in good shape?

Whats sea faom a engine degreaser or something that goes in the oil?
