Default Starting problem

I'm posting this for a friend. This morning she went out ot start her 01 ford ranger, and all it did was click the interior lights didn't dim or ne thing. So first she tried to jump it and nothing.....Could it be the starter or possibly the connections?

Thanks,
Kevin

its not the starter..the clickign you are hearing is the starter..

most likely either the battery or alternator.

also she says there is a big black ground wire coming out of the harness with the other starter wires thats just hanging there. Could that cause the problem? I'm assuming that wire probably gets grounded to the block?

Thanks,
Kevin

when a starter starts to go bad and you try to start it, have a friend give a good tap to the starter with a hammer or somthing metal that has weight. it will start. if you hear a clicking, chances are the battery has little life left and is trying to feed the starter but doesn't have enough juice.
