Default Shredded the Drive shaft in two..

So we took my new 01' WS6 to the raceways tonight, drive shaft broke on the 2nd run. Got it home, drive shaft was broken in two,it broke through the exhaust and almost into the interior of the car. Now here's a question.... it's a manual, but when we started the car up in neutral the drive line was still rotating, but it stopped once the clutch was in... so can someone explain that... why would the drive line still be rotating if the tranny isn't engaged? Oh, and I'll post some pictures later of the damage...

Once, many moons ago, I blew up(and I mean BLEW UP) the rear diff in a pumped S10 pick'em up truck.

It did exactly the same thing. I'm'a guess its because the internals of the trans are still moving because there's no resistance to stop it. If it was connected to the diff the cars own weight would act as resistance.

Just a guess.

I tore out my tranny last weekend and noticed if I turned the input shaft, the output shaft would also turn when in neutral. But when I held the output it would stop.

Get a driveshaft loop when you get a new driveshaft.

It moves because the input shaft will move if there is no load on it, you can stop it with your hand. Autos do that too.

in a manual transmission, the gears are always in mesh. the movement is due to bearing drag between the input and output shafts, they touch.
