Default Fuel Filter Life?

How long is the average life of a fuel filter? My car has a shade under 70k on the clock and i bought it at 49k. So since i've had the car the filter hasn't been changed but i dunno about the guy before me.

Let's just assume it does need replacing, is it expensive and hard to get to?

The filter is not hard at all to change out. If you still have the same filter, change it out. Check out http://www.installuniversity.com

They have some excellent directions on how to.

I'd change it. When I bought my car (69K miles), one of the first things I changed was the fuel filter. I'm about to change it again when I hit 100K mark.

Yeah, just go to their front desk and tell them you need a fuel filter for your car. They'll tell you the part number and it should be on their filter aisle.

I agree with you

The filter is about $15 dollars at any auto store, easy to do. U should change it every 15,000 or 20,000 miles.

You must have got the gold plated one, cost me $7.

I consider it a yearly thing to change, regardless of the mileage, which is about 10k this year. Easy to do.

there is no set mileage for fuel filters either, it completely depends on how much crap you pump into your tank at the gas station you could plug up a fuel filter in 15 miles or be completely clean after 200,000 miles

I seem to remember, and i hope i'll be soon corrected if I'm wrong, when I changed mine, I just, you know, took it out and put the other back in. No tools. About 30 seconds after I crawled under the back of the car. Seem to remember spilling gas everywhere, but not carring.

All you need is a crescent wrench and like a 17mm open end, or whatever size it is. But other than that your right, in and out, and its gonna spill some gas, but no biggie.

I change mine every year unless I feel the car is acting weird. When I blow out the old filter it usually emits quite a bit of black dust and dirt.
