Where is my PCV valve??
I will try to keep this as short as possible, but I want to give as much info as I can. I am new to the LS1 game as of a couple of weeks ago. First, I live in Michigan, so I don't care about emissions, I just want the car to run well, and not effect the computer. The car is a '98 WS6 Trans Am that appears to be stock with 68k on it. It seems to run fine, but I noticed the entire engine compartment is covered with misted oil. After looking around a bit I noticed on the driver's side valve cover, there is only a plastic fitting with a 3/8 nipple in the back with nothing on it. No loose hoses or anything. I am sure that oil is misting out of this fitting. When I look in LS1 books and pictures on line they only show the newer style center bolt valve covers and the PCV valve is located in back of the valve cover, mine is not. I am from old school hot rod, but want to learn and understand the new as well. What can I do here???

Is it just behind the #7 coil pack in the cover itself? That's the crank case vent and should have a hose on it. Sorry I don't have a diagram for the perimeter covers to verify if we're talking about the same thing.

it should have a black hose on it. and that hose will run over to the passenger side and connect to that head, and then it will run to the front of the motor

I don't know if its the same on your car mine being an 01 and yours a 98 but mine was on the intake right after the tb on the passenger side. The valve is inside a hose that is connected to the manifold, just pop the hose with the valve off the manifold and then remove the valve from the hose. It feels like it is stuck in there but be painent and move the hose back and then pull it should come out and then installing the new valve make sure its in all the way. Push until you hear a click then reinstall its pretty easy. You might want to get some intake cleaner and clean off the hose and the spot in the intake if you have any oil resude which im sure you will mine did. Hope this helps!

Thank you, that is exactly how it is set up. And item #4 is missing as well as the hose coming off from it to the balance tube for the other valve cover. What exactly is item #4?? Is that the PCV valve inside that elbow, or is it somewhere else inside a hose as SuperSport4life has suggested?? I know there are some subtle changes in LS1 set ups from year to year. Thanks again guys, you have already been a big help.

the PCV valve on an LS1 fits snug into the driver side valve cover. That pictures valve (#4) is NOT to scale, its much smaller. The hose that goes to the throttle body is a breather hose.

I have a 98 and had a very difficult time finding the pcv valve at first. Then of course got the answers here. That i recall the pcv is wraped in hose, aluminue paper. You remove the aluminume paper then disconnect the hoses. It will be there under wraps. If not found i will take pictures if needed. Its been a few years since i haven't changed mine, it may need a new one by now.
Forgot to add its on the drivers side, near the top valve cover tucked in there.

Did some more searching on the differences between years - found this, not sure what 98 "only" cars means - maybe that's the confusion.
"22. 1998 only cars had a different PCV system with the PCV valve located above the passenger side valve cover."

Apparantly these stupid valves are placed in different places on these cars.
Pretty much the valve is located in the tube that goes from the driver valve cover to the pass valve cover, then that tube runs to the front of the motor.
