Default My car wont start when it is warm, but it will when it is cold. ????

Just bought a 2003 Tahoe LTZ with less than 70K miles. After three weeks of having it I noticed that when I start it when its cold it start perfectly fine and fresh. I noticed that if I drive it for a couple of mintus or so when the Tahoe is warm turn it off come back and try to turn it on it struggles to turn on. Its not until the second time that I try to start it that it finally turns on. I got a new battery already and still it does the same thing. What do you guys think? Your input would be helpful.

Friends of mine had an old lumina minivan that did that exact same thing, but I can't remember what it was that caused it (this was a few years ago). It was some sort of sensor I believe.

Coolant temp sensor. Car uses it to know the temp of the engine and determine when to switch between open and closed loop.

Coolant temp sensor. If it is the Coolant temp sensor then why is that I can read the temperature on my speedo?? Why is it that there is no service engine light on my car?

It may have a sending unit for the guage and one for the temp sensor that only talks to the ECM.

My honda did the same exact thing. It will be located somewhere near your thermostat, just follow your radiator hoses to the engine block. To check this, after the car is warm, put a paper clip in the sensor clip.

Yeah my first impulse is to go with some sort of sensor that when it gets warm is giving a false reading causing the vehicle to not start. Which sensor that could be you'd have to rely on somebody else for that answer.

I had kinda same problem, when cold it started great, but when i tried after it was warm it would crank for like 5 to 10 seconds. Turned out to be fuel pressure regulator.

By "struggles to turn on" do you mean that it cranks slowly or cranks at normal speed but takes a longer than normal time to turn on?

I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and it did the job. Thanks.
