Emergency Brake Faulty?
I bought my 98 Formula not too long ago and the E-Brake was perfect (no brake job was performed prior to this). One morning I went to pull it up since it was down and the button popped out exposing the spring (it comes out far enough to the lighter). Then if you try to pull it up it has no locking ability, just pulls up freely and falls back down.
So my quick fix until I can figure out what the heck happened:
If I put the e-brake down and pull it up without holding the button at the end down, the button will pop out. So the fix to make the button go back to normal and make the e-brake functional is to push this small lever inside the e-brake mechanism down to make it engage. Sounds confusing but I must fix this problem. Anyone that does not know that the button must be pushed when pulling up the e-brake faces this problem (carwash). Thanks for any suggestions.

My buddy had this happen on his 98Z'.. he said you need to replac the spring, but it cannot be bought from the dealer without the whole e-brake assembly. I'd check a salvage yard.
