Default Losing all oil pressure

I was driving on base this morning and my check engine light came on, then i checked my gauges and the oil pressure gauge needle fell all the way down, then car eventually died. Does anybody have any possible ideas of what may have caused this?

The car "eventually" died? Kept driving, huh? Good job.

it died, then i started it again and pressure would be normal and fall and die again unless i held the clutch in and gave it gas?

sounds like the oil sending unit went bad. My bro'd jeep did this and took us about 20 min and a Advance Trip to fix her back up. No sweat just make sure its not a Oil Pump or you're fugg'd. If you're seeming to get some pressure but then it dies, sounds like the oil sending unit. Please make sure your not leaking oil though somewhere first.

Are you saying at idle it has no pressure but if you rev it up it has a little and stays running? Any knocking, shaking, and/or squeaking? If you're lucky your guage is wrong if not your engine may be gone.

There is no knocking shaking or anything, i was simply driving, my check gauge light came on, then i noticed my pressure was gone, then it died. I started it up again, did the same thing, did it once more and then it was fine all the way to work??

Do what you want, but under NO circumstances would I drive my car AT ALL while it's telling me it has no oil pressure. It may be the guage, the oil pump, or a bearing. You'll know soon either the easy way or the hard way. If you can't fix it have it towed to a competent mechanic. JMHO.

After all, that is why you have guages, to hopefully save the engine before it is too late.

ive had that happen, sometimes just an oil change will take care of that. If the oil pressure is too low the car should automaticly shut off i think its a safty feature

Stop starting the damn thing man. Get the oil system checked. If oil pressure goes to zero and the engine stalls its because there's no lubrication and your tearing your internals up.

I would expect my wife to drive the car for weeks and then casually say, "Honey, the car's got no oil pressure, some red lights are on, and it sounds funny. May wanna get on the internet and ask about it."

SHE DOES NOT HAVE A KEY TO MY CAMARO.

Actually, she not retarded, but I can picture someone's wife saying that.

but she really doesn't drive the Z28.
maybe neither should the op

Oh my God, this thread is hillarious. "My oil pressure's like at 0 and I keep starting and drivng it and it runs like crap. What's wrong?"

It's like on Jeopardy! where you must give your reply in the form of a question.

Alex Trebek: "Stupid things people do for $1,000. You do this to blow up your car."

diabloj15: "What is, keep starting and driving your car after you already know the oil pressure is zero."

change your oil and if it has a silvery tint to it you probably have a spun bearing, and you might as well start looking for a new motor.
