Default Power steering... or lack thereof, wtf?

I've had a problem w/ my power steering for as long as i've had my car (around 3 years). It used to whine alot in lower RPMs when i turned (whined like a whale) and was hard as ***** to turn with one hand, so i had the power steering pump itself replaced. Killed the whine, but it's still requiring more effort to turn than necessary. I have a friend w/ an 01 SS and i definitely have something to compare to b/c his is like butter while mine is a struggle (i'm of average athletic build so i know it's not me).

Anyways, i figured maybe it was the fluid. Checked the fluid and it's always on the mark as far as "full" goes but it's always got this orangish tint to it, real gross barf color. So i flushed it about 3 times after having a new pump installed, just to make sure i cleared the system.... well, still hard as crap to turn and liquid still turns orange. I don't know what else it could be. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

maybe it's the actual rack itself. i had to replace mine, due to leaks.

I was thinking the same thing. Either its the rack its self or maybe there is something plugged up in a line somewhere.

does your car have a power steering cooler?? there could be coolant from your power steering cooler leaking into your power steering system. that could be the cause of your barf colored power steering fluid. i once read there is way to check pressure in your coolant system for leaks.. if there are none obviously seen, it could be in the power steering cooler.

Well sounds like it's been narrowed down to the rack then.
