Default Do you change oil weight for winter months?

I've always ran 5w-30 Mobile 1 in my stock LS1. Do any of you change to a different weight oil for the winter months?

Nope. I live in Texas and it gets hot even in the winter.

But with modern oil I wouldn't think that'd be necessary unless we're talking waaaaay up north like Montana where it can dip in the negative Fahrenheit.

No. When I had a daily driver LS1 that I also used in the winter, I stuck to the same M1 0W40 regardless of the season. Temps in my area usually range from about -10°F to +95-100°F at the extremes, and this grade works well anywhere within that spread.

So what you’re saying is you run a winter oil all summer - and are wondering about running what exactly in the winter? You do know the “W” in 5W30 means “winter” right?

Smart ***. The oil all OE's call for is multi viscosity so they are all going to have the "W" in there. No one call's for a straight 30 weight. 15w40 or 0w20, still different viscosity at specific temperatures, which is what the OP was asking.
