Default a/c killing battery

i've got a small issue. when i'm stopped at a light and the ac is on the battery gauge needle drops down to the warning level. i've gotten a new battery in the last 3 months and was just wondering what else could be causing this. would like to fix as soon as possible because its getting incredibly warm.

Try having your alternator tested. If it isn't cranking power at low RPM, your battery probably can't keep up with the load.

My old SS did the same thing, and now my Z28 does it.
