Damn T/A power antenna! help
I started my car today and for some reason was too lazy to take the car cover all the way off and left it on the back half of the car. So the radio was on, the antenna went up and broke. now its stuck about 3/4s up and if I pull it up by hand it falls back down, and it wont go back down. Do I need a new mast, motor, or is this just something stupid that can be fixed. I didnt have much time to look at it yet. I did it before I had to leave for work and thats where I am now. Thanks for any help

hahaha I thought of that but I would rather fix it. I wish it would only go on with the radio.... and not with the CD player. Then I wouldnt have had this problem. lol

I agree... If I wanted to repaint my quarter panel I would shave it. My GTP had the antenna in the rear glass and was nice and sleek once I removed that stupid onstar antenna

I took it all apart and that stupid plastic cogged belt that pushes the antenna up and down was cut short inside the motor... I hope when I install the new one the piece from the old one doesent screw up the motor. I was unsuccessful at retrieving it.

The old belt bends and forms a tight circle inside the motor casing, which is why it won't come out. Its probably still wrapped around the gear inside the mechanism. If you try putting the new mast in and the old belt is still inside, there may not be enough room for the new belt, which could damage it as well.
I've never done it, but maybe there is a way to get in there to service the unit and get the old belt out?

The whole thing is held together by melted plastic rivits. The motor still runs and you would think it would push the old piece out... but it didnt. I'll have to take another look at it and see if it can be opened up without destroying the unit

I just threw one of my old masts out, otherwise I'd send you a picture. As the belt ages, it gets stiff and has some memory to it that keeps it coiled up. (When you take the belt out, it goes back in to the coiled position.) If you have a broken piece around the gear, its probably coiled up, which is keeping it from coming out the straight tube away from the gear. (It would just keep going around and around in circles.)
