Default A/C Problems in 120 degree weather.

So a little while after I bought my Z28, the main AC line blew. So I got a new one, and replaced it, using the old O-rings. I was thinking, damn I should have bought new O-rings, but oh well. So it leaked. Damnit. So I replaced the O-rings.... Leak-town. So I decide to run this R134A with Yellow Dye, to see where the leak is... Nothing. Nada. So I decide well... it can't be that big of a leak, I'll run some STOP LEAK through it.... it seamed to hold the charge... but the next day came around and Negative. Still Leaking.

Now I don't know what to do. I'm not an AC guy. And this being a HOT area, all of the "AC guys", rip you off big time.

They wanted about $500 to replace the main hose that blew. Claiming that they had to "take the whole front end of the car apart" to get to it. And they said the part cost $250. I got it for a little over $100 new.

Anybody got some advice?

Thanks.

Ok, well first off, did you take it somewhere to have the system recharged or did you just buy a can of R134? The reason I ask is, with you removing that line you need to go ahead and hook it up to a machine and put it in a vacuum for 30-45 minutes to get any moisture out of the system.

As for the leak, that is UV dye and I'm assuming you were using the glasses and UV light to check for the leak afterwards?

Also, if you overfill the system it won't work either...

I made sure not to overcharge the system...
and as far as the dye, I used a UV light, but I didn't know I was supposed to use glasses. I went to hookup the high pressure side to the recharge hose, and some of the dye came out, and it was visible to plain eye.
And I know I was supposed to evacuate the system, to ridden it of contaminents, but would that have anything to do with why it's not holding a charge?
Be easy on me, I'm not really A/C Savy.

Thanks for the help.

Well, you not only put it in a vacuum to remove debris but also moisture and air. And they can both cause the system to fail but I'm not sure if it'll cause it to just stop working. It's harder to push than freon so the compressor has to work harder and your accumulator has a bag inside it to absorb moisture as well...and the less moisture it has absorbed the better it will work.

You did put oil back in right?

not sure but you do need oil in the system to help lubricate the compressor

Truthfully it's just a PITA to try to do it without that machine. I mean, you hook it up to that and you can get pressure readings for the high and low sides and use that to help diagnose your problem. It's just one of those things you can't do in your backyard.
