Default Headlight issue when unlocking/locking car

It's a 1999 WS6 Transam convertible. It doesn't matter whether
you use the key fob remote to lock/unlock the car or use the actual
key in the door, but both headlights go up and the driver's side makes
an unusual grinding noise for approx 5 secs and then both go back
down. The problem does not happen, ie the grinding noise on the
driver side headlight, when you use the headlight switch. Any ideas?

Holy good mother of god.

I've come to the conclusion that 95% of people that roam around on forums have no idea what a "sticky" is or even realizes that there are special informational threads that are always frozen/locked at the top of each section. And I was one of those people for a long time.

Please spread the word to every Firebird owner you know
Headlight fix: and there's no reason to ask if your specific symptoms are really happening because of this, IT IS!!!! The headlight that is making the "grinding" noise is the problem gear/motor, the other headlight is most likely just fine. Fix the noisey one and they will both act normally again.

scroll almost all the way to the bottom to get the free fix, takes about 15 minutes to do it:

There is a sticky at the top of this section called:
General Maintenance & Repairs FAQ -- PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING THREAD
There are two links there. One is to a thread discussing the issue and also links to the bfranker page with the free fix and brass gears. The other is to a thread about cheaper plastic gears.
