Default car wont start

the other day my 1998 buick century was running fine and all of a sudden it killed on me. It was pretty low on gas at the time so I got it started and pulled into a nearby parking lot. I then filled it with gas and when it started it ran rough then eventually killed. A mechanic then took a look at it and he said my cam was bad and that I needed a motor. I just dont understand how all of a sudden my cam went out without giving me any sign of anything. can someone help me

Take it to another mechanic that just crazy talk from your mechanic.

Maybe have the fuel pump checked. The battery and alternator.

I know with an ls1 motor if you run out of gas this will burn the fuel pump.
