Default Car clunks when I ease off the brakes

For example, imagine a stop at a red light. When
I ease off the brakes gently, there is signifigant clunking as the car barely begins to move. Yet, the car does not clunk when braking from full speed.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks

You have an A4?

If you just ease off the brakes they are still somewhat applied when it starts the "clunking." What it probably is is just the brakes groaning as they lose and regain grip over and over and start sliding. If you just let off the brake normally, not easing off the brake, does it just move smoothly?
