temperature gauge is acting up and fans are staying on
The other day I was driving my car and I noticed that the temperature gauge was below the 160 degree mark close to hitting the peg like it was not working and then every once in a while it would bounce back up to about 168 - 170 degrees on the gauge. After doing this for like 15 min it never did it again and ran right around the 170 degree mark which is where it always runs while moving. I have a 160 degree thermostat in it and also when I shut my car off after driving it the fans stay on for a little bit. Could the temp sending unit be bad? If it is overheating could thats be why the fans are staying on once the car is shut off?

Unless the fans have been programmed to stay on after key off the PCM is thinking the car is overheating. The 98's have a 3 wire ECT sensor vs. 2 on the '99 and up. 1 wire is for the gauge, that's why it actually works. You didn't mention the SES being on, but a bad sensor should throw a code. I'd replace the sensor, they're not expensive.

Coolant Temp Sensor. Went through this on my monte carlo about two months ago. Driving down the expressway, temp goes to zero and fans are on. Took me forever to figure it out too. I'm assuming ls1's have one of these. I'm not totally sure, i just got my camaro yesterday.
