I had the car apart before and had anti seize on the manifold studs so it all came right apart. I just took the cat out and wire wheeled the gasket area clean. Left the manifold in place so it was a pain to get the old gasket off, but it has to come clean for it to seal.
A lot of times the studs break if you've never had them off, so try soaking them with your favorite penetrating oil first.
That gasket in the pic is for the drivers side '98-'02 LS1 F-Body. Had to order it from advance auto. They keep the passenger side in stock, I guess that one fits other applications.
EDIT, they call it the exhaust flange gasket. I went to Napa first and they said it was a dealer only item. Guess they were wrong. Advance had it to me next morning. It cost $3.54
